Where estar breaks the pattern

  • estoy. The yo form of the present ends in -oy, like soy, voy and doy.
  • estás, está, están. These forms carry a written accent: estás, está, están, esté, estés, estén.
  • estuve. The preterite has its own stem, estuv-, and no written accent on estuve or estuvo. The imperfect subjunctive is built on it: estuviera.

Vos and vosotros

vos estás, estáArgentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and much of Central America. The other tenses use the tú form.
vosotros estáis, estadSpain. Latin America says ustedes están.
