Where ir breaks the pattern

  • voy, vas, va. The present of ir is irregular in every person.
  • fui, fue. The preterite of ir is the same as the preterite of ser: fui, fue, fueron. The sentence tells you which verb it is. The imperfect subjunctive is built on it: fuera.
  • iba, ibas, íbamos. The imperfect is irregular, like the imperfect of ser and ver.
  • vaya. The present subjunctive has its own stem, vay-.
  • ve. The tú command is one syllable.
  • andá. With vos, the command for ir comes from andar: andá.
  • yendo. The gerund is irregular.

Vos and vosotros

vos vas, andáArgentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and much of Central America. The other tenses use the tú form.
