Where volver breaks the pattern
- vuelvo, vuelves, vuelve, vuelven. The stem becomes vuelv- where it is stressed. In volvemos and volvéis the stress moves to the ending and the stem stays volv-. The present subjunctive does the same: vuelva, vuelvas.
- vuelto. The past participle is irregular: he vuelto, había vuelto.
