Where venir breaks the pattern

  • vengo. The yo form of the present ends in -go. The present subjunctive is built on it: venga, vengas, vengamos.
  • vienes, viene, vienen. The stem becomes vien- where it is stressed. In venimos and venís the stress moves to the ending and the stem stays ven-.
  • vine. The preterite has its own stem, vin-, and no written accent on vine or vino. The imperfect subjunctive is built on it: viniera.
  • vendré. The future and conditional use vendr- in place of venir-.
  • ven. The tú command is one syllable.
  • viniendo. The gerund changes the e of the stem to i.
